Thailand Today - Myanmar Tomorrow

After 20+ hours of cramped planes and taxis, we finally made it to Southeast Asia! Bangkok, Thailand, to be exact. We leave for Myanmar on Monday morning and are anxiously anticipating our first few weeks there. But we are also immersing ourselves here in Bangkok with all it has to offer - floating markets, spicy delicous food, 1950s-era trains and barges, and our hostel's bustling neighborhood. The photo stream up top shows some beautiful moments from the last 24 hours. Plus, here's a video of life along the Mae Klong River southwest of Bangkok.

Our next post will be from Myanmar where we start our travels in the southern coastal regions. Mon State, Yangon Region, and Rakhine State are home to some of the oldest ethnic groups and religious monuments in Myanmar. Gold encrusted boulders and Buddhist temples, hidden caves filled with hundreds of Buddha statues, and coastal fishing villages -- this landscape will serve as the backdrop as we start documenting the traditional use of Thanaka paste. It's particularly popular here because of the intense tropical sun and climate yearround, where people use it as a natural sunscreen. We can't wait to bring you these stories very, very soon!
